Progression

Introduction

Progression in Planes of Power is widely considered to be the most confusing and easiest to screw up in all of Everquest. This was before the achievement system was in place for tracking kills so it revolved around character flags from doing hails/dialog and having a convoluted system in place for resolving issues if things were done out of order.

To make it a bit easier to wrap your mind around, instead of seeing progression as a whole instead see it as 10 distinct steps. There is a charm, the Intricate Wooden Figurine, given by Gram Dunnar in Plane of Knowledge. Each stage you complete will increase the power of the charm by 10% and serves as a nice structure for following the progression path.

If you do any steps out of order head to Seer Mal Nae`Shi in the Plane of Knowledge, sit down, and /say "Unlock memories" and "guided meditation" over and over until the response from both prompts repeat. If you need help decyphering the text, you can try this Decoder.

Here is a high level overview of progression and lore:

  • Go to Justice, complete a trial for Mavuin, he tells you that Mithaniel Marr and Karana have information you need. Unlocks Storms and Valor.
  • Go to Nightmare, save Thelin Poxbourne by first rescuing him from the Hedge Maze then killing Terris Thule. Unlocks Torment.
  • Go to Disease, save Adler Fuirstel's brother by first defeating Grummus. Unlocks Crypt of Decay.
  • Go to Valor, defeat Aerin'Dar to prove your might. Unlock Halls of Honor.
  • Go to Storms, assist Askr by defeating giants and collecting medallions to create a "key". Unlocks Bastion of Thunder.
  • Go to Innovation, gain access to the factory and "test" the Manaetic Behemoth for Giwin Mirakon, who says to meet him in Drunder. Unlocks Tactics.

    • Go to Crypt of Decay, kill Bertoxxulous to completely save Adler's brother.
    • Go to Torment, save Tylis by defeating Keeper of Sorrows. Continue on and destroy Saryrn. Get half of "divine cypher".
    • Go to Halls of Honor, complete 3 trials for access to Mithaniel Marr. Kill him and get second half of "divine cypher".
    • Go to Knowledge, speak with Grand Librarian Maelin to complete the "divine cypher".
    • Go to Tactics, defeat Tallon Zek and Vallon Zek, get "notes" from them.
    • Go to Knowledge, speak with Grand Librarian Maelin about Zek notes, learn that The Zeks and Solusek are planning an invasion in Norrath. Unlocks Tower of Solusek Ro.

    • Go to Tactics, defeat Rallos Zek.
    • Go to Bastion of Thunder, defeat Agnarr to free Karana. He teaches you about Zebuxoruk trapped in Time.
    • Go to Knowledge, speak with Grand Librarian Maelin. Unlocks Air, Water, and Earth.
  • Go to Tower of Solusek Ro, defeat 5 minis for access to Solusek and defeat him. Unlocks Fire.

    • Go to Air, Water, Earth, and Fire defeating the 4 elemental gods.
    • Combine 4 Essences from gods in Odyllic Vial to create Quintessence of Elements.
    • Go to Innovation, speak with Chronographer Muon then Maelin to get ported into Plane of Time.

 

Plane of Storms and Valor

  1. Head to the Plane of Justice and make your way to Mavuin. Hail him and /say 'What information'. Mavuin tells you that he was imprisoned by the gods to shut him up, and if you'll plead his case to The Tribunal he'll share what he knows. This gives a character flag.
  2. Go back north to the Tribunal area via the teleporter. With a group speak to any of The Tribunal and /say 'I am prepared' and your group will be ported into the trial (event details). When you win talk to The Tribunal and /say 'What evidence of Mavuin'. They will agree to hear Mavuin's case. This gives a character flag.
  3. Head back to Mavuin and hail him. He will tell you that Zebuxoruk has been imprisoned by the gods and you should seek answers from Mithaniel Marr and Karana. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Plane of Storms and the Plane of Valor.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
Mavuin is grateful to you for taking his case before the Tribunal. The information provided to you, that Mithaniel Marr and Karana carry information you should seek, could be quite useful.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Plane of Torment

  1. Head to the Plane of Tranquility and locate Elder Poxbourne prone on the ground. Hail him, then target Adroha Jezith and follow dialog starting with 'what coma' and ending with 'tortured by nightmares'. She will tell you that Thelin had been studying Zebuxoruk but was cursed by Cazic Thule for doing so. In Tranquility he managed to open a portal to the Plane of Nightmares, by Terris-Thule punished him for this by trapping him in nightmares. She asks that you find him in the plane. This gives a character flag.
  2. Bring up to 18 people to the Plane of Nightmares and locate Thelin Poxbourne to the northeast. Hail him and follow the dialog, he'll tell you that Terris Thule has trapped him, but if he can recover his broken dagger she'll free him. Have each group leader say 'I am ready' to be ported into the hedge maze. Inside hail Thelin and say 'I am ready', he will begin walking through the maze. You will need to keep him alive as you clear both static mobs and various ambushes as he picks up 6 pieces to his dagger. When Thelin reaches the center of the maze "a construct of nightmares" spawns and attacks. Not very hard, just a big chunk of hitpoints. Once the construct is defeated loot a Dagger Blade Shard, give it to Thelin for a Thelin's Dagger. Terris will appear and say Thelin cheated by having you help him so he is not to be freed. After she despawns hail Thelin once more. This gives a character flag and unlocks PoNb, the Lair of Terris Thule.
  3. You might need to go back to Tranquility and hail Adroha at this point. Need confirmation.
  4. Bring a full raid (with at least 85% having completed the Hedge Event) to the east side of Plane of Nightmares to zone into the Lair of Terris Thule. Clear your way and the defeat Terris (event details). Hail the Planar Projection after, This gives a character flag.
  5. Return to Tranquility and speak with Adroha and Elder Poxbourne again. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Plane of Torment.

Saved from a world of eternal nightmares, Thelin is forever in your debt.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Crypt of Decay

  1. Head to the Plane of Tranquility and locate Adler Fuirstel near Plane of Disease. Hail and follow the dialog ending in 'what ward' and he will tell you his brother, Milyk, opened the portal to the Plane of Disease but in doing so became very ill. He wants you to go to Disease and get the ward from the one that guards the path to Bertoxxulous as that should be enough to save his brother. This gives a character flag
  2. Bring a full raid into Plane of Disease and head towards the castle. Kill Gryme the Crypt Guardian for a Temporary key to unlock the door to the castle. Inside kill Aramin the Spider Guardian and make your way deeper. Finally confront Grummus (event details). When Grummus dies hail the Planar Projection. This gives a character flag.
  3. Return to Adler in Tranquility, hail him and he begs you to see to his brother now that you have the ward. Locate Elder Fuirstel at the sick house and speak with him. The ward stops the spread of the disease but does not cure him. He implores you to defeat Bertoxxulous to end the pox for good. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Crypt of Decay.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
Now that Grummus has been destroyed, the entrance to the Crypt of Bertoxxulous should open before your might.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Halls of Honor

Before doing this you will need to complete Access to Plane of Valor.

  1. (Optional) Head to Plane of Valor and complete the key quest to reach Aerin'Dar. You only need one key to let the raid in
  2. Bring a full raid and defeat Aerin'Dar (event details). When it is dead hail the Planar Projection. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Halls of Honor.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
You have bested Aerin`Dar and proven yourself honorable enough to pass into Mithaniel's Halls.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bastion of Thunder

Before doing this you will need to complete Access to Plane of Storms.

  1. Head into the Plane of Storms and kill any type of giant until you get a Storm Giant Head then locate Askr the Lost in caves near the zone in. When you hail him he will mostly ignore you, give him the Storm Giant Head. He will be impressed, follow the dialog ('it was me', 'I am paying attention', 'continue', 'continue'). He gives you Askr's Bag of Verity and says he requires proof you can kill all three types of giants.
  2. Kill giants in the south to get Storm Volaas Beard, giants to the west to get a Storm Taarid Bone, and giants to the northeast to get a Storm Satuur Sash. Combine the three inside the bag and return it to Askr.This gives a character flag.
  3. Askr gives you another Bag of Verity and explains to gain entry to the Bastion of Thunder you will need an Esoteric Medallion. Leaders of each type of giant have a part of the medallion and any two different ones will allow entry. Take a raid force and kill these leaders (event details), loot 2 different Esoteric Medallions. It appears that trash mobs can drop the medallions for their region for the first two months after the expansion opens on a server, removing the bottleneck. Combine the medalions to create an Esoteric Meld and return this to Askr. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Bastion of Thunder.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
You have obtained the Talisman of Thunderous Foyer from Askr, he seeks further assistance in the Bastion of Thunder.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Plane of Tactics

  1. (Optional) Head to Plane of Innovation and complete the Xanamech Nezmirthafen event to be able to open the factory door. One person can open the door for the raid.
  2. Head into the factory area and locate Giwin Mirakon. Follow his dialog ending in 'I will test the machine'. He will tell you that he is in charge of building a weapon for Rallos Zek, but if you can destroy it he can hopefully get out of Innovation and back to battle. This gives a character flag.
  3. Deeper in the factory lies the weapon, the Manaetic Behemoth. Stop the spiders long enough to trigger the Behemoth and then destroy it. (event details) Giwin will spawn near the corpse, hail him and he will invite you to come to Drunder, Fortress of Zek. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Plane of Tactics.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
Giwin would like you to find him in Drunder so he can present you to Rallos Zek.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tower of Solusek Ro

Before doing this you will need to complete Access to Plane of Storms/Valor, Access to Plane of Torment, Access to Crypt of Decay, Access to Halls of Honor, and Access to Plane of Tactics.

  1. The first step is to complete the Bertoxxulous chain.
    1. Take a raid of 36 people to Crypt of Decay and complete the Carprin Cycle (event details). When finished Tarkil Adan spawns. When hailed he gives you access to the depths of the Crypt to confront Bertoxxulous. This gives a character flag.
    2. After repeating Carprin to flag everybody, take a full raid force and click the Bone Throne at the zone entrance to port down. Kill Spectre of Corruption to start the event then defeat the Bertoxxulous ring event (event details). Once dead hail the Planar Projection. This gives a character flag.
    3. Head to sick bay in Tranquility and speak with Elder Fuirstel. This gives a character flag and completes the Bertoxulous chain.
  2. With both Bertoxxulous and Terris-Thule chains complete, you can start on the Saryn chain.
    1. Head to the Plane of Tranquility and locate Fahlia Shadyglade at the sick bay. Hail them and follow the dialog ending with 'I will go'. Fahlia will tell you that Tylis lies in agony and that is must have to do with Maareq in the Plane of Torment. This gives a character flag
    2. (Optional) Complete the key to Saryrn's Tower. One key is all that is needed to let a raid in (event details).
    3. Take a full raid into the tower and fight your way to the fourth floor. When Mareeq the Prophet is killed, Tylis spawns. Hail him, bunch the raid up, and /say 'We are ready' to port in. Kill The Keeper of Sorrows and Tylis spawns again. Make sure the entire raid hails him before saying anything else!! This gives a character flag.
    4. Once everybody has hailed, /say 'I am ready to return' and your group is ported back to the fourth floor. If you get ported before doing the hail you'll need to redo the event to get the missing flag!
    5. Continue to the fifth floor and kill Saryrn. Once defeated hail the Planar Projection. Killing Saryrn will grant half of the Divine Cypher. This gives a character flag.
  3. Next up is to follow Mavuin's advice to get information from Mithaniel Marr.
    1. Take a full raid force to Halls of Honor and complete the trials: Nomads, Villagers, and Rydda'Dar (event details). Each trial gives a character flag and with all 3 you have access to Temple of Marr.
    2. Take the raid force into Temple of Marr and defeat Mithaniel Marr. Hail the Planar Projection after, this gives you the second half of the Divine Cypher. This gives a character flag.
  4. Head to Plane of Knowledge and locate Grand Librarian Maelin at the top of the library. Hail him and /say 'What information'. This should resolve the Divine Cypher and give a character flag.
  5. Take a full raid force into Plane of Tactics and defeat both Tallon Zek and Vallon Zek. (event details). When you hail the Planar Projections you'll get a message about finding a pack of notes. This gives a character flag.
  6. Back to Grand Librarian Maelin in Knowledge, follow his dialog (if ever in doubt just repeat 'what information' and 'new lore'). Maelin will use your Divine Cypher to translate the notes from Tallon and Vallon and learn that the Zeks and Solusek are planning an invasion in Norrath. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Tower of Solusek Ro.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
The words of Maelin echo in your mind, 'The Zeks and Solusek are planning an invasion in Norrath, find out more from Rallos if you can.'

 

Planes of Air, Water, and Earth

Before doing this you will need to complete Access to Bastion of Thunder and Access to Tower of Solusek Ro

  1. (Optional) Complete the Key for Agnarr (event details). Only one key is needed to port the entire raid up.
  2. Take a full raid force into Bastion of Thunder and defeat Agnarr and free Karana. Speak with Karana and follow the dialog ending wth 'I will follow the path of the Fallen'. This gives a character flag, if you fail to say that phrase and just port out you will need to redo the raid. Karana will give you information about Zebuxoruk. After getting your flag /say 'Send me on my path' to be ported out.
  3. Back to Grand Librarian Maelin in Knowledge and /say 'new information' and 'new lore'. Maelin will use your Divine Cypher to translate the information from Karana to learn Zebuxoruk is trapped in the Plane of Time and you need the power of the elements to get there. This gives a character flag.
  4. Take a full raid force into Plane of Tactics and defeat Rallos Zek (event details). Once defeated hail the Planar Projection, This gives a character flag.
  5. Back to Grand Librarian Maelin in Knowledge and /say 'new information' and 'new lore'. Maelin will use your Divine Cypher to translate the information from Rallos to learn that Solusek intends to lay waste to Norrath and must be stopped. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Planes Air, Water, and Earth.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
Learning of Zebuxoruk's fate, the only way to save him is gather materials that will allow you to power up the machine to send you into the Plane of Time. Maelin has charged you with finding an elemental power source sufficient to activate Meldrath's time machine.

Alternately, hailing the Planar Projection after Xegony will give you access to Plane of Water, Coirnav for Plane of Water, and Avatar of Earth for Plane of Earth.

 

 

 

 

Plane of Fire

Before doing this you will need to complete Access to Tower of Solusek Ro and defeated Rallos Zek the Warlord.

  1. Head to the Plane of Tranquility and locate Miak the Searedsoul near Plane of Fire. Hail it and it will tell you the portal has been altered. This gives a character flag.
  2. Take a full raid force into the Tower of Solusek Ro and defeat all 5 minis. Each will give a character flag.
  3. Click on the central pillar to port to Solusek's chamber and defeat him. Hail the Planar Projection, This gives a character flag.
  4. Once you have your flag, click on the floor to open a pathway into the Plane of Fire. This unlocks the Plane of Fire.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
The true route to the Plane of Fire is now clear in your mind.

Alternately, hailing the Planar Projection after Fennin Ro will give you access to Plane of Fire.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Plane of Time

Doing this requires ALL prior steps, obviously.

  1. (Optional) Craft an Odylic Vial. The Vial is tradable and not consumed, so one is enough for everybody. (EQTraders Link)
  2. Take a raid force into the Plane of Water and defeat Coirnav to get a Sphere of Coalesced Water.
  3. Take a raid force into the Plane of Air, kill the four Avatar events for the key, and defeat Xegony to get a Amorphous Cloud of Air.
  4. Take a raid force into the Plane of Fire and defeat Fennin Ro to get a Globe of Dancing Flame.
  5. Take a raid force into the Plane of Earth, complete access to Plane of Earth B, and defeat Avatar of Earth to get a Mound of Living Stone.
  6. Combine all 4 of these in the Odylic Vial to create a Quintessence of Elements.
  7. Head to the Plane of Innovation and locate Chronographer Muon in the factory. Hail him and /say 'yes', he will teleport you to another portion of the zone with a "time machine". Hail Maelin here, say 'researched', then click on the machine. This gives a character flag and unlocks the Plane of Time.

When completed this line should appear in guided meditation:
Your soul has formed a bond with the Plane of Time. You can now pass through the portal in the Plane of Tranquility safely.

 

 

 

Alternate Access Quests

These quests allow access to the zones without raid flags, but the access is for xp only. It will not count towards future planar progression, in other words you'll still need to kill Grummus for the flag even if you do the alternate access quest for Crypt of Decay.

Crypt of Decay

This quest starts with Grimror Plaguebringer at the entrance of Plane of Disease. If you follow along his dialect heavy dialog Grimror reveals that he needs you to collect 4 types of Larvae Flesh:

The person that hands the 4 pieces in to Grimror will get Bangle of Disease Warding, an instant click disease resist buff, and the entire group gets "Grimror's Bracer grants access to the Ruins of Lxanvom." added to their keyrings, allowing access to Crypt of Decay.


Plane of Torment

This quest starts with Iramai Sacredsoul in the sick house in Plane of Tranquility. Following her dialog will reveal that Phanti, who she is caring for, has fallen very ill and she wants to see if the bile of a rat in Plane of Disease might be used to reverse a cure. The item you seek is Bubonian Bile, it drops off a named bubonian, Rythrak, which spawns in the caves in the sourthern part of Plane of Disease. Give this to Iramai and she returns Purified Bubonian Bile and says she doesn't have the skill to convert it into a cure. Instead you should speak with Brugga, a creature trapped in Plane of Justice near the entrance to the caves. To speak with him you need to be able to speak Orcish well and you will need at least Amiable faction. Mobs in the cells in Justice are split into two main groups, "Prisoners" in the north cells, "Creatures" in the south cells. Killing "Prisoners" raises "Creatures" and vice versa. Since Brugga is a "Creature" you may need to kill some "Prisoners" to raise your faction. With sufficient faction and language, hail Brugga, go through his dialog, and give him the Purified Bubonian Bile. He'll talk about how he needs a stronger poison to drive this out. This will require 3 more items:

Give these 3 to Brugga and he will mix you up a Vial of Opaque Fluid. Give this and the Purified Bubonian Bile to Iramai. She will thank you and your group will have "Phanti's medallion allows passage into Torment, the Plane of Pain." added to keyring, giving access to the Plane of Torment.


Plane of Tactics

This quest requires access to Plane of Storms. Start by speaking with Wembly the Forlorn in Plane of Storms near where you zone in. Chat with him and he'll tell you how his ship was beset by Diaku Raiders. He offers to help you get into the Plane of Tactics if you'll take revenge on the Diaku. The keys to get into Tactics are torn into four parts, each carried by a Diaku. Your job is to collect each of the pieces. If he doesn't offer you the quest you may need higher faction. In this case just go out and kill (or at least tag) giants around the zone for a +Askr faction hit.

Head to the desert region on the west side of the zone and kill any Diaku Raiders you spot. They share a spawntable with the rock storms so kill them as well. Roughly half of the Diaku Raiders will a drop a Quarter of a Diaku Emblem. There are 4 different types with no way to distinguish without casting identify, but they are Lore and No Drop, so just keep trying to loot until you have all 4. Give them all to Wembly and he will stitch them together into a Completed Diaku Emblem and add "With your talisman, you may enter into Drunder as you were Diaku." to your keychain giving access to Plane of Tactics.


Halls of Honor

This quest requires access to Plane of Storms. Start by speaking with Grenic Drere in Plane of Valor in the northeast corner of the wasteland. He'll tell you how he was kicked out of Halls of Honor and can help you gain access if you can capture the souls of the ones that got him expelled. Head to Knowledge and find Borik Darkanvil in the smithing building. Chat with him and ask about "box of souls" and he will say he needs 3 parts:

If you have smithing skill over 150 you can combine those 3 with a flask of water and a smithy hammer in a PoK forge. Or you can give the 3 items and 3000 platinum to Borik and have him try. He does not always succeed! (unknown fail rate). Regardless of which you choose, you will get Box of Souls.

Box in hand head to Plane of Justice and kill "tormented wraith". They shouldn't give any faction hits, so it shouldn't interfere with the Plane of Torment alternate access quest. Occasionally when a wraith is killed it will spawn a trooper, soldier, or officer of Marr. Give the box to these non-agro spawns to get a Soul Sphere. Once you have a sphere from all three spawn types head back to Grenic. Give him the three spheres and the Box of Souls and your group will have "With Marr's Symbol you may enter the Halls of Honor" added to your keyring, giving access to Halls of Honor.
