Point-Slope form is an alternative to Slope-Intercept form and conforms to (y - y
1) = m(x - x
1), where
y
1, x
1 is any point on the line and m is the slope. It is a more general version of the Slope-Intercept
since it can be writen using any point instead of requiring you to know where it crosses the y-axis.
If you insert the y-intercept (0, b) into the equation and reduce it:
(y - y
1) = m(x - x
1)
(y - b) = m(x - 0)
y - b = mx
y = mx + b
You can see how it transforms into the Slope-Intercept form you have already studied.
